Buick has included highly advanced sensors in 2011 Buick Enclave to instantly predict a probable rollover.
Whenever a rollover is sensed, a signal is sent to deploy head curtain side air bags and front seat safety belt pretensioners to safeguard vehicle occupants. Safety belt slack is reduced by pretensioners and the safety belt’s load on the occupant is restrained by load limiters. These two technologies help in maintaining the position of vehicle occupants during rollovers.
The sensors are part of the 2011 Enclave’s extensive safety package. They received the highest five-star vehicle safety score from NHTSA. Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has honored the sensors with a Top Safety Pick.
The Buick Enclave includes a number of safety features such as traction control, anti-lock brakes, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover alleviation and Panic Brake Assist, enabling drivers to prevent such collisions. Additionally, the latest rollover sensing technology of luxury crossover assures appropriate usage of occupant crash protection systems.
The General Motors Engineer, Bridget O'Brien-Mitchell, headed the predictive rollover sensing development team. He mentioned that the new technology depicts their dedication to safeguard clients and their families against vehicle crash.
The NHTSA Traffic Safety Facts 2009 annual report has stated that of all vehicle collisions, rollovers amounted to 2.2% and deaths from rollovers accounted for 35.4% of all traffic fatalities.
The rollover sensing technology comes under Buick’s innovations suite that offers uninterrupted security preceding, during and following a collision. All cars of Buicks include OnStar technology’s protection. During a crash, the automatic crash response of OnStar technology sends alert to first responders to bring medical aid on crash site at the earliest.
