Gyrodata declared that it has included its latest Gyro-Guide GWD70 system in its popular Gyro-Guide Gyro-While-Drilling tools portfolio.
The company unveiled the GWD70 at the 2011 SPE/IADC Drilling Conference and Exhibition held in Amsterdam during the first week of March. The new tool depicts a significant step in the area of wellbore positioning and drilling security.
The GWD70 system is based on either collar or probe. During drilling, it facilitates instantaneous surveys up to 70° of inclination from upright position. It features a built-in MXY rate-gyroscope, which was developed in-house at the company’s sensor plant located in California. It is the first gyroscope developed exclusively to address tough tasks of the oil field environment. In addition, the MXY enables the GWD70 system to offer competent and precise readings while included in the drilling BHA.
When the gyroscopic sensor of GWD70 is coupled with the magnetic sensor and the CAP data processing firmware, reliable wellbore positioning is received by the client and the second examination offers data superfluity, thereby identifying the overall defects. Additionally, the system can be programmed to drive a memory multishot using a new communications link for verifying the functionality of both MWD and GWD. It also enables to validate the location of wellbore before establishing casing.
Keith Beattie, Gyrodata's Global Product Champion, stated that field trails has assured the performance of the GWD70 system and operators can receive precise, real-time survey results.
During the field trials made in North Sea and North America, the GWD70 system showed excellent performance even in the toughest of environments, offering precise gyroscopic information to the customer.
