Atmel, a global designer and manufacturer of microcontrollers, capacitive touch solutions, mixed-signal, advanced logic, radio frequency and nonvolatile memory components, has released new software drivers integrated with the AVR Studio 5 Integrated Development Environment.
Atmel’s Sensors Xplained software drivers aid in speeding-up device and application development by offering calibration and driver support for a range of popular sensor types that are used in industrial, medical and consumer applications.
The company has partnered with a number of sensor manufacturers including Bosch Sensortec, Invensense, Osram Opto Semiconductors, AKM and Honeywell for developing the sensor drivers. Atmel plans to release new drivers for the products of other companies as an element of its AVR Studio 5.
Atmel’s expansion boards and Sensors Xplained software drivers are compatible with the Xplained series of microcontroller (MCU) boards that are designed for the company’s AVR family of MCUs.
The driver software uses a standard application programming interface that simplifies development of applications. The Sensors Xplained drivers address issues such as interoperability, data conversion, scaling and calibration. Atmel provides examples of higher level applications, optimized for AVR architecture as library functions.
New sensor solutions can be quickly developed with Atmel’s ready-to-use sensor boards and drivers. The Atmel Sensors Xplained drivers are available with AVR Studio 5.
