OKI Sensor Device Increases Reed Switches Production

OKI Sensor Device, a completely owned subsidiary of OKI Electric Industry, which is designing, producing, and selling reed switches, is integrating its two production facilities in Yamanashi Prefecture into one facility at Kofu City.

This will help the company to increase it manufacturing space to the extent of 50% and also boost its annual production by 50%. The new facility will emerge on line during October 2010. The consolidation will help in increasing the production efficiency and capacity to cater for the increasing growing demand.

Integration of the two facilities into one will help the company to increase market share to cater for the requirement of various sectors that are undergoing noteworthy growth like the automotive industry. It will help to increase the manufacturing capacity to 400 million units from 300 million units by fiscal 2012 end. The process will also help to significantly reduce the impact due to the environment.

Electromagnetic induction technique is used to turn the read switches on or off to join their contact points. These reeds are presently utilized for applications that include rice cookers, washing machines, refrigerators, IC testers and home security equipment. Application range of reeds is continually expanding. Every year, 300 million reed switches are produced by OKI Sensor Device, making the company a major share holder in the global reed switch market.

OKI Sensor Device’s CEO and President, Tetsuya Takayashiki, informed that the reed switches will be made using an integrated process for shortening the lead time in the upgraded facility. Integration into one facility will help the company to increase productivity and market share to cater for the requirement of various sectors that are undergoing noteworthy growth like the automotive industry, according to Takayashiki.
