At the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu in Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerela there is a high level of security being considered. Police have sent a report to the state government outlining all measures that could be taken to improve security at the shrine which holds national treasures in its cellars.
The Kerela Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that a decision in the security arrangement would be taken after the report was studied. He added that already the police was handling the security of the shrine and a new post of Superintendent of Police has been created to head the security team of the shrine as per a decision taken in the cabinet meeting.
The police have recommended amongst other measures a proposal to install close circuit cameras (CCTVs) outside and around the temple complex to monitor the premises. They have also asked for special sensors to be installed within the radius of the cellars where the treasure was found.
The police would also like to install machinery to scan materials being taken into the temple and also use biometric sensors and laser sensors. These steps are being urged to protect the treasure, whose estimated worth is over Rs 1.50 lakh crore. Gold, diamonds, precious jewels and idols were recovered from five chambers following a Supreme Court order, while the sixth and the last vault still remains closed as of now.
