Luna Innovations has introduced the ODiSI (Optical Distributed Sensor Integrator) instrument, which is a sensing platform for enabling temperature or high resolution strain measurements.
This product would offer completely distributed temperature or strain measurements delivering a huge amount of data with the help of an optical fiber, which acts as a continuous sensor. This technology developed by Luna would throw light on the failure mechanisms, tolerances, and performances of structures and vehicles. This would be useful in industries such as energy, automotive and aerospace where high density strain or temperature measurements are essential. The applications of the ODiSI product include performance optimization, structural health monitoring, design improvement and model and design verification.
Due to the ever growing demands for lighter, safer and stronger structures, fiber optic sensor technology is gaining ground. The ODiSI instrument with an advanced fiber optic sensing technology offers a sensor that is extremely easy to install, strong, light and rich in data content. Furthermore, it does not need costly Fiber Bragg grating fiber. This solution takes temperature or strain data from along the whole surface, which is being tested, and it also permits the users to redefine sensing points during post processing. Traditional static point sensors do not have these features.
Luna’s CEO, My Chung, has stated that the company was thrilled to launch the new sensing product, which will enhance and boost test and measurement standards over multiple industries, and will help their customers to decrease maintenance expenditures and optimize mechanical designs, which will then be used by them to offer next generation products.
