1st Detect has announced that it has been awarded a key patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a unique technique for driving a mass spectrometer ion trap or mass filter for chemical identification and sensing.
John Porter, who is the CEO of 1st Detect has stated that the company was happy to have received the patent for their unique technology. He also mentioned that they were progressing satisfactorily in their quest to develop the miniature chemical detector (MCD). This patent would be a significant part of the company’s intellectual property catalogue.
This patent would be immensely beneficial for the company to continuously monitor the ion trap and also actively regulate changing parameters for optimal performance capabilities. According to David Rafferty, who invented the patent, and who is also the President of the company, the technology helps them to provide a cost-effective and high performance yielding mass spectrometer suitable for both field and lab applications.
The miniature chemical detector developed by 1st Detect is a product that would transform the chemical detection market as it provides mass spectrometry in a portable and a compact pack. This instrument with its wide range of capabilities could be used as a detection tool for applications in healthcare, industrial and security markets. The MCD could detect vapors and residues from illicit drugs, food and beverage contamination, toxic chemicals, chemical warfare agents, explosives and pollution.
