A distributed temperature monitoring systems developer, Lios Technology has entered into a long-term agreement with fiber optic sensors manufacturer, Opsens. As per the terms of the agreement, Opsens and Lios Technology will combine their well surveillance technologies and provide a solution to measure pressure and distributed temperature (DTS) in Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) wells in Canada.
The solution can also be applied to other Enhanced Oil Recovery wells. Opsens’ OPP-W high-temperature optical temperature and pressure sensor will be integrated with LIOS’ high-temperature distributed temperature sensing system ("DTS") to provide a complete profile to significantly enhance SAGD well management.
This integrated solution will enable the customer with the ability to monitor temperature and pressure at the horizontal well’s toe as well as measure the temperature along the wellbore with submeter spatial resolution. The customer can also obtain an exhaustive profile of the wellbore which can be further applied for well management and enhanced optimization.
The Vice President, Oil & Gas at Opsens, Gaetan Duplain stated that the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin will benefit from the distributed sensing products developed by Lios Technology as well as the partnership between the two companies.
The CEO of Lios Technology, Thomas Oldemeyer stated that the collaboration will enable the company to operate in difficult downhole conditions while benefiting from Opsens’ proficiency in installing and completing downhole instrumentation.
The fiber optic OPP-W sensor system developed by Opsens will provide oil sands producers with real-time downhole temperature and pressure data concerning the SAGD wells while in operation. SAGD operators will be able to minimize lifting and operating costs as well as enhance oil/steam ratios since the operators can precisely control and monitor bottomhole pressure at increased temperatures for operation of lift systems
