Network security and identity management solutions provider, Zvetco Biometrics has announced the addition of the Verifi C500, a FIPS-201 approved USB smart card reader to its FIPS-201 and FBI approved range of combination readers.
Designed for one-hand operation, the Verifi C500 features a metal chassis that provides enhanced durability. Its rugged construction and state-of-the-art electro-static discharge (ESD) protection protects the smart card from embedded chips. The electro-static protection feature has been added to the Verifi C500 to ensure there is no loss of productivity or loss of sensitive data. The device uses the smart card controller chip designed by SCM.
The Vice President – Sales of Zvetco Biometrics, EusebioCoterillo stated that government agencies will benefit by using the C500 card reader as they can reduce operational costs incurred by repeated smart card failure. Since the Verifi C500 has ESD protection and is a rugged reader, it can sustain heavy use for several years. Coterillo added that the smart card reader can be used in Personal Identity Verification (PIV) , governmental and First Responder Authentication Card (FRAC) applications where cards are used for access control.
The Verifi C500 is also PCSC complaint. This makes it ideal for use in government desktops and secure networks. It protects electronic data and personal computers from threats and facilitates logical access. The C500 is compatible with smart card technologies such as the Gemalto, DoD CAC card and Oberthur.
The Verifi C500 fingerprint reader features a powder coat finish of commercial grade and has been designed with an aluminum construction which offers ESD protection. It is also available as an independent USB-based smart card reader.
