Cypress Semiconductors has declared that its single-chip TrueTouch controllers have made it possible to incorporate sensor-on-lens technology by direct lamination on large LCD screens.
This technology involves deposition of conductive Indium Tin Oxide sensor layers directly on the cover glass. This deposition requires only one panel, hence tablets designed with this technology are much thinner and involve lesser number of manufacturing steps.
The TrueTouch Controller, CY8CTMA884, facilitates direct lamination of the cover glass onto the LCD with the help of a thin adhesive layer. A number of solutions that have been proposed on similar lines before did not work out due to the increase in electrical noise due to the closeness of the screen interfaces. Cypress has integrated its noise immunity technology and high signal to noise ratio characteristics into the TrueTouch Controller for noise free performance. The controller can be used for large LCD screens, measures up to 11.6 in. and offers 60 I/O channels for sensing. These large touch screens encompass up to 884 nodes on the screen. For applications that require increased accuracy and linearity, additional sensing channels can be provided in the controller. The controller, as any TrueTouch device, is equipped with 10-finger touch support, grip and palm rejection, low power consumption and quick scanning.
