Silent Call Communications has introduced a new receiver, smoke detector and shaker, as part of its line of fire safety devices. The Signature Series Sidekick II receiver and the company’s Bed Shaker, have the ability to wake up people who are hard of hearing, deaf or are heavy sleepers.
The Signature Series Sidekick II receiver can be connected to the Bed Shaker and smoke detectors. It can also work in coordination with different types of transmitters, including telephones, sound monitors, weather alert systems, and door bells. The receiver is also an alarm clock, and when it goes off it also triggers the Bed Shaker to wake up the sleeping person. The device has an inbuilt Supervision feature that allows it to be connected to the Signature Series Smoke Detectors that can provide an alert when it does not receive signals or if its battery is low. The system can also be used to wake up children.
A study on the effectiveness of the various alarm systems on people having hearing abilities, found that the Bedshaker was most effective. For hearing able people, the awakening effectiveness was 92%, for hard of hearing persons it was 82% and for the deaf it was 93%. Irrespective of the hearing ability of persons, the intermittent bed shaker provided effectiveness of 100% for all participants in the study.
Recent studies have indicated that young children under 5 years are at the highest risk due to fire injury and deaths in homes. Around 116,600 children get injured due to burns and fire associated accidents. And around 488 children below the age of 14 years die due to fires at homes. Many children do not hear any fire alarm when they sleep as they are heavy sleepers.
Silent Call Communications, a provider of alerting and tactile devices, delivers products that can help wake up deaf, hard of hearing people and those who sleep heavily.
