X-Sight Systems, a provider of surveillance and detection sensors and systems for airport security, has announced that it has successfully completed the deployment of the X-Sight FODetect Automated Foreign Object Debris Detection System at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand.
The deployment of the FODetect system along two runways at the international airport was completed in a period of five months. As per the regulations of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the system underwent and cleared a Site Acceptance Test before the FODetect system was handed over to the Airports of Thailand authorities.
The deployed FODetectsystem is capable of detecting Foreign Object Debris (FOD) which includes misplaced objects on airport surfaces that can cause damage to tires, engines and aircrafts, thus disrupting airport services and endangering passenger safety. An automated FOD detection technology, it has been previously tested at the Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts, USA.
The Airports of Thailand is responsible for airport development and management. In addition to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the other airports under its jurisdiction also include the Chiang Mai International Airport and the Don Mueang International Airport.
The FODetect Automated Foreign Object Debris Detection System uses state-of-the-art image processing technologies and radar to constantly scan the runways for detecting foreign objects. It employs surface detection units, which combine an optic sensor and a millimeter-wave radar sensor. Upon detection, the FODetect system issues an audible alarm along with the high resolution image of the detected object with information about the coordinates and the size of the detected object, thus enabling the personnel to take the required action.
