Dytran Instruments, a major producer of piezoelectric and DC MEMS accelerometers, pressure and force transducers, and related electronics, has launched a new ultra miniature isolated accelerometer. The 3224M5 is an IEPE accelerometer.
The Dytran model 3224M5 is designed like an ultra miniature teardrop. It weighs 0.3 g and has a height of 3.02 mm. It has a frequency response of 0.32-20,000 Hz. The instrument can operate reliably in temperatures as high as +149°C. Dytran supplies the model with a sensitivity of 10 mV/g.
In the accelerometer, a lightweight titanium housing that has been laser welded contains a shear sensing element. An integral cable having a length of 3 ft. is terminated to a 10-32 jack. This cable can be mated with other types of Dytran extension cables, such as the 6011A and 6011B. In order to avoid any EMI/ground loop interference, the Dytran model 3224M5 is case isolated.
The IEPE accelerometer features a unique design that allows it to be mounted in inaccessible spaces using adhesives. Its ultra miniature teardrop design also helps in mounting the device in difficult to access spaces.
The Dytran model 3224M5 is well suited for performing product response testing, PC board vibration measurements and environmental stress screening. They can also be used for general vibration applications, which are affected by mass loading.
