CGGVeritas recently declared that its fourth repeat survey (LoFS04) acquisition will commence on the Ekofisk field in the North Sea.
This survey is part of the LoFS (Life-of-Field Seismic) initiative for which the company was presented with seismic data acquisition as well as processing.
Mobilization begins in early June 2012, and the shooting period will continue for a month based on the LoFS program schedule. The program acquisition initiates with a four-component (4C) fiber-optic permanent reservoir monitoring (PRM) solution and utilizes 16,000 Sercel OPTOWAVETM ocean-bottom channels. Over two years following the full-scale fiber-optic installation, the data offered by all channel sensors will be deployed to generate 4D reservoir monitoring images for the client.
A team of CGGVeritas acquisition and processing experts within client’s processing center located at Tananger (Norway) conducted quality control and data processing from every repeat survey. A fiber-optic connection to the shore enables real-time remote operation, besides the full optical sensor network being extended at the seafloor. Based on their skill and proficiency in processing multicomponent 4D data, the imaging specialists at CGGVeritas produce high-resolution time-lapse seismic images of the reservoir.
According to CGGVeritas CEO, Jean-Georges Malcor, following the commencement of this fourth repeat survey, OPTOWAVE and the company’s Permanent Reservoir Monitoring solution offer reservoir monitoring data to its partner based on unique, innovative full-scale permanent monitoring technology. The company’s planned R&D client-collaboration with regard to improved 4D repeatability on Ekofisk represents CGGVeritas as a pioneer supplier of reservoir monitoring seismic solutions.
