Polar Introduces Wireless Heart Rate Sensor with Bluetooth Smart Technology

Polar, a provider of technologies for heart rate monitoring and fitness assessment, has launched a new wireless heart rate sensor with Bluetooth Smart technology for heart rate transmission.

The Polar H7 sensor allows the heart rate to be viewed on smart phones in real-time. It is compatible with iPhone 4S. The sensor has the capacity to transmit up to a distance of over 10 m. The Bluetooth Smart transmission technology requires low power and will enable the H7 sensor device to have a longer battery life. The technology is an open standard for application developers and manufacturers of low power devices.

The device will help users to determine the intensity of their training during exercise and they can share their data through Bluetooth Smart ready devices. The sensor can communicate with Polar 5kHz units and compatible fitness equipment.

It the 7th annual Bluetooth SIG Best of CES Awards program, Polar received recognition as one of the finalists. The program deals with new, innovative products that utilize Bluetooth technology. The awardees were named at the 2012 International CES Exhibition.

Polar’s Group Product Director, Marco Suvilaakso, stated that the company is a pioneer in utilizing Bluetooth Smart technology and has joined other companies in profiling the heart rate for Bluetooth Smart. The open standard of the Bluetooth Smart in H7 will enable many people to view their heart rates. New smartphones and tablets many provide support for Bluetooth Smart ready devices by the end of the year. The novel technology and the Polar H7 heart rate sensor hold vast potential in sports and fitness applications.
