N-trig, the creator of the DuoSense solution that integrates capacitive true multi-touch and pen functionalities in a single gadget, has launched the ‘N-trig N-act Hands-on gesture vocabulary’ for four, three and two plus one finger multi-touch functionality.
This vocabulary can improve the total user experience. It can be also be used with the pen feature and enables the user to use additional multi-touch gestures for performing actions on the screen directly by using either the pen or their finger.
This N-act gesture highlights the continued enhancement of the multi-touch segment of the market for offering a more flexible, hands-on and natural experience to the end users. The multi-touch N-act type of hands-on gesture vocabulary includes a broad range of actions and movements by utilizing direct type of on-screen finger manipulations such as the N-act2+1, N-act3Tap, N-act3DoubleTap and N-act4Select.
N-act4Select involves selection of an item and zooming in by placing four fingers on the screen’s square. The N-act3DoubleTap relates to tapping simultaneously the three fingers on the screen for minimizing all windows and displaying the desktop. The N-act3Tap is for displaying all presently opened windows as a 3D carousel formation by simultaneous tapping of three fingers on the screen. The N-act2+1 relates to placing two fingers together on the screen, with the third finger used to display a context sensitive menu.
N-trig plans to increase the touch interface’s mass adoption by upgrading the standardized two-finger based multi-touch gestures to a higher level and increase multi touch capabilities, which would involve the combination of a pen and four or more fingers. This development is resulting in the emergence of additional opportunities and possibilities for creation of different versions of computing gadgets and new software applications like CAD programs, video games and enhanced graphics packages.
DisplaySearch’s Director Dr. Jennifer Colegrove informed that multi touch functionalities for touch technologies has established a new market dealing with innovative applications, with the Windows 7 platform establishing a base for adoption of multi-touch functionality on PCs. He predicted that the global multi-touch module market will peak to nearly $2 billion during 2010.
N-trig’s CEO Amichai Ben-David informed that the next step in building N-act vocabulary’s foundation is to focus on the simultaneous utilization of the pen feature with true multi-touch capabilities, resulting in the emergence of multi-touch and pen as a standardized requirement and set the process for developing an enhanced touch-based software for improving and increasing the user experience.
