The Atlantic Inertial Systems (AIS) operation, acquired recently by the Goodrich Corporation, has received Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems’ 4-Star Supplier Excellence Award. A Fortune 500 company, Goodrich Corporation, is a world wide vendor of systems and services to aerospace, and markets.
This award is in recognition of the company's outstanding performance throughout 2009 to support the Patriot missile program. Under this program, the company delivered high quality gyroscopes on time for the weapon seeker system.
Through the AIS operation, Goodrich has been collaborating in this program since its commencement during the early 1980s. At that time the company was chosen to deliver the weapon seeker system’s G6 rate integrating gyros. Three such gyros are used to measure yaw, roll, and pitch for the seeker system for accurate in-flight navigation of the missile.
Goodrich's AIS team’s Vice President, US operations Robert Nead informed that Goodyear’s gyros have offered an unsurpassed technological capability level for the Patriot missile of Raytheon for more than twenty five years. He added that the supplier awards from Raytheon are a true indicator of excellence that is given to a small proportion of Raytheon’s suppliers only. He revealed that Goodrich was given a 3-Star award during 2008 and was able to improve on the performance during 2009.
Raytheon distinguishes outstanding vendor contributions through Supplier Excellence Awards. Such awards based on key important factors that include commitment to quality improvement and continuous process, on-time delivery, and sustained quality performance. During 2009, out of several thousands of businesses in the supplier list of Raytheon, such awards were given to 88 companies only.
Goodrich has the most strategically diversified product range in the industry, and serves a worldwide customer base with considerable global production and service facilities.
