The YAS532 developed by Yamaha, is a tri-axial geomagnetic sensor integrated circuit for application in tablet PCs and smartphones. In the middle of September 2011, Yamaha will start shipping its samples.
The size of YAS532 measures 1.5 x 1.5 mm, the world's smallest and third in the company’s series of geomagnetic sensor. The company used its proprietary technology and used a monolithic structure to generate CMOS circuits and sensor elements all in a single chip resulting in smaller circuits.
The YAS532 is equipped with an auto-calibration software using proprietary drivers and algorithms for several different types of OS, as like the existing products. The auto- calibration algorithm enables the users to operate and complete the process easily through an accurate numeric processes.
The key specifications of YAS532 include tri-axial geomagnetic sensor, 1.7 to 2.8 V operating voltage, one minute active measurement time, 8 pin WLCSP measuring 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.65 mm package size, -40 to 95° C operating temperature, 4mA power consumption when active and 1µA while on standby, broad dynamic range of ±1200 µT, I2C host interface, high resolution of 0.15 µT at X, Y axes and 0.25 µT at Z axis.
In order to expand the market for geomagnetic sensor integrated circuits, the company aims to develop products with higher performance levels. In addition, it works to provide robust software that include fusion software supporting different sensors types, software that integrates gyroscope sensor properties in its performance, and software enriched with correctional features for helping near field communication (NFC) coils utilized in wireless chargers.
