GE Intelligent Platforms to Introduce Novel Sensor Processing Products

GE Intelligent Platforms plans to introduce novel sensor processing solutions featuring Xilinx low-power consuming, high-performance Virtex-7 and Virtex-6 FPGAs.

This new digital transceiver, digital receiver and FPGA processor solutions will offer the advanced technology and cutting-edge processing performance needed for processing applications including signals intelligence, radar, tactical communications and software defined radio.

The Virtex-6 FPGA has been developed to utilize around 50% less energy and thereby dissipate less heat in comparison with its previous versions, making it suitable for use in military deployments wherein power, cooling, weight and size are highly constrained. When compared with its predecessors, the Virtex-6 FPGA offers around twice the performance as it uses a transceiver, the Xilinx ExpressFabric technology, performance-tuned IP blocks that support DSP and a 600 MHz clocking technology among other functions.

The new Virtex-7 series is developed utilizing a 28 nm low-power/high-performance manufacturing process, facilitating it to utilize 50% less energy in comparison with the Virtex-6 series. Both device series provide users with higher frequency I/O and greater programming capacity that facilitates support of high-speed serial interfaces even up to Gen3 PCI Express.
